Στη Χιλή της δικτατορίας του Πινοσέτ, η Κάρμεν (Aλίν Κουπενχάιμ) μετακομίζει στο παραλιακό εξοχικό της προκειμένου να επιβλέψει την ανακαίνισή του. Όταν ένας φίλος ιερέας την πείθει να φροντίσει, κρυφά από τους δικούς της, έναν τραυματισμένο νεαρό επαναστάτη (Νίκολας Σεπουλβέδα), η ευκατάστατη αλλά μοναχική γυναίκα αποκτά ένα πρωτόγνωρο για εκείνη κίνητρο για ζωή, ενώ παράλληλα βλέπει την ήσυχη και βολεμένη καθημερινότητά της να ανατρέπεται μέρα με τη μέρα.
